It was wonderful to welcome the Bishop of London to St Nicholas on Sunday, it was also wonderful to see so many of you in Church. I love it when the bishop says “Simon, I’d love to visit, no fuss, nothing special” Oh yes, when the big cheese CEO asks to turn up, there is always a fuss! Still, it all went quite smoothly and I could rest in the afternoon with a cold compress on my forehead. I know she wants to return to spend some more time at the convent and nursing home, so that is good. Thanks to Max I’m able to share with her and you some memorable photographs of the day.
This is Holy Week – it is the holiest week of the year. Palm Sunday inaugurated the drama of the passion, we continue the drama on Maundy Thursday at 8pm celebrating the institution of the mass and a watching in prayer with our Lord during his arrest. On Good Friday at 12noon we celebrate the Stations of the Cross, following Jesus on his last journey and then at 2.00pm we sit and pray with Jesus as he is crucified. All is not lost because on Saturday evening at 10.30pm we begin the celebrations of our Lord Resurrection, which continue on Sunday at 8.00am and 10.30am. I do hope you will be able to join us in prayer and celebration.
I know it’s a bit premature, can I wish you all a very happy Easter.
